RISCI looks to review and improve the respiratory management of people with SCI at each level, from the immediate time period post injury, across the rehabilitation journey and through and beyond discharge to lifelong management.
We aim to provide a professional forum for discussion and to facilitate research and audit with a respiratory focus.
The committee and representatives from each SCI unit meet quarterly and we aim to have a conference every 18 months to meet and share practice, ideas and experience.
We are very proud and pleased to be working alongside MASCIP and excited at the opportunities this partnership will provide
Our key aims are to :
- Optimise early respiratory management following SCI through education, information provision and the development of appropriate guidance
- Facilitate the appropriate management and weaning of those who require mechanical ventilation whilst in the host major trauma centre / critical care unit, awaiting transfer to a Spinal Injuries Centre
- Develop agreed standards and frameworks for lifelong respiratory management after SCI
- Provide information and education to people with SCI, family and friends as well as fellow healthcare professionals
- Promote and enable those living with respiratory needs after SCI to live a healthy and prosperous life
